New Kitchen

These pictures are from a complete kitchen

remodel that my dad and I recently completed.

The home was built in the 1800's and was complete with
roughsawn framing, square nails, and lathe & plaster. The
other unusual thing we found behind the plaster
was a snake that had taken residence inside the kitchen wall. This
was a first for us!

Here are some of the final pictures. The homeowner did a great job
picking out the paint and cabinets, which seems to give
the kitchen a larger look and feel.

Wine Cabinet

The photos below are from a small kitchen project. The

homeowners were replacing all of their appliances, including their

microwave. They opted for a Microwave/Range Hood combo, which

required reconfiguring some cabinets and also freed up the old

microwave cabinet (below) for other uses.

They chose to have me convert it into a very useful wine

storage and display cabinet.

New Front Porch

These are some photos of a recent project. The job
entailed adding on a
front porch with a gable roof.

As part of the project we installed vinyl shake siding on the porch
area and gable end. We also replaced the front door.
The project turned out great, and I believe it added some
real depth and curb appeal to the home, as well!

Just for Fun

Having in-laws from the mid-west has opened my eyes
to some new things, one of which is the game of Cornhole.
This is a yard game that uses bags
of corn and the game boards pictured below. The idea
is to toss your bag in the hole or
land it on the board. I apparently did not know this, because
when I played with my in-laws I wasn't able to do
either of those things. So, I knew I needed to
have a set to practice on before the next competition.

Since, I was already building a set, I built four more sets for the
rest of my family. The boards are constructed of Birch plywood,
Red Oak side boards, and Cherry inlays and
hole trim. I leveled the surface with
grain filler, and then finished the boards with
lacquer.

The boards are built to function like a suitcase. They attach to
one another for easy carry and storage. They also have
a rope that is measured to the correct
playing distance. I'm still terrible at the game, but I
love to play anyway.

Porch Remodel

This was at one time a functioning screened-in
porch. However, it was very poorly constructed and had
begun to rot from the bottom, up. The porch had no
real foundation. It was only supported by a handful of
untreated 2x4's that sat on a thin layer of
concrete that had been poured on top of the ground. Needless
to say, the foundation was a little shaky and a little rotten. The
screen frames had all rotted and the decking was not
far behind.

In the photo below you can see I decided to save the roof of
the porch, which had brand new
roofing on top. Apparently, there had been a tree
next to the porch when it was built, and
the porch had a cut-out section that likely fit around
the tree. I decided to restructure the roof and the deck to
include this lost space.

Here are a couple photos of the final project. As you can see
the porch is complete with a reconfigured roof
and floor plan, two entrances, and a gutter to finish
everything off. It is now a much more functional space, and
a much more durable and aesthetically pleasing space.

Built-in Bookshelves

These are some before and after pictures of a project I did
some time ago, but had neglected to put them on
the site. The project involved creating bookshelves that
fit the space, as well as removal of the old carpet and freshening up
of the hardwood floor that was underneath.

Finished project. The shelves are all adjustable for height, the wiring
is internal to accommodate the electronics, and the TV rests on a
rotating base.

House Flip Project

My dad purchased this house last winter and he and I

spent the winter and spring trying to rehabilitate it for sale. The

place was in rough shape. The water damage was very severe, so

we ended up removing the dormer, as well as totally replacing

the back 10 feet of the house. We also added a

front bedroom/office area, and completely

replaced the garage. My dad was the mastermind behind the

project, and it turned out great!
